THE SCREAMING SKULLS are a horror punk band from Los Angeles, California. Like many PsychoBilly bands, The Screaming Skulls blend punk rock aggression with simple, catchy melodies that evoke 50s Doo-Wop and early Rock n’ Roll. This genre fusion conjures images of classic horror movies, bloodstained poodle skirts, and tattooed pin up girls. This band can play downtempo crooning just as comfortably as they can play mosh-worthy punk riffs. Hell, sometimes they even do both in the same song. After all, what is a punk rocker if not a modern day greaser? They both wear leather jackets, ride motorcycles, love horror movies, and are generally up to no-good mischief. Our kind of people.
The Witch Doctor and The Butcher are both badass guitarists, The Clown plays a mean bass, and The Professor kills the drums. On top of their wicked instrumentation, each band member also sings and writes songs. Together, they have a solid band dynamic as the Screaming Skulls. Their music is spooky, cheeky, and fun. Their songs are highly entertaining, alluding to tropes like zombies, werewolves, and other classic cinematic monsters. Even the band name is derived from a 1958 indie horror movie. Punk rock and horror films go together like teenagers and aliens.
Many of the band members grew up together, and were longtime friends before forming The Screaming Skulls. They bonded over music, especially the LA scene, and a mutual love for the ultimate Horror Punk band, The Misfits. Los Angeles is famous for its significance in shaping American pop culture and music. The city of angels also has its fair share of mad scientists and movie monsters. The Screaming Skulls are a product of their environment. This band takes a variety of pop culture influences and makes them their own.
