BRETT-BIT (Game or Bust), an LA based chiptune artist, creates unique, original music and 8-bit covers of underground gems. Brett-Bit’s remixes are refreshingly unique. From GREEN DAY to THE STROKES, he covers a variety of subgenres rooted in punk and alternative. Along with many of his other video game related material, his 8-bit cover of STARBOMB’s “Minecraft is for Everyone” is a cult classic. While Brett-Bit is largely a solo project, he frequently collaborates with other artists or remixes their songs.
As a member of the acoustic punk duo BATE, Brett- Bit’s musical contributions go beyond remixes. His chemistry with Nate Filichia in Bate results in an alternative indie sound with a twist of rock. This acoustic punk duo is a prime example of his musical versatility. He is also the bassist of industrial rock group DESPITE LOYALTY. After remixing the popular doom-like tune “Body Bag Bondage”, he became a member of the band. Now he is also involved in the creative process as a co-producer and writer. His bass talents in Despite Loyalty bring a signature groove that defines the band.
Wistful and reminiscent of old school video games, his electronic music is retro and fun. His YouTube channel GAME OR BUST is also nostalgic as well as current. His collaboration with gamer, musician, and YouTuber DARKOVIKA began as inviting her to play a guest star violin solo on a Bate song which later turned into Split Debate, a split album. The acoustic punk jams of Bate blended seamlessly with Darkovika’s indie rock vibes. Brett-Bit thought it would be fun to make an 8-bit version of their songs, so he did so with Darkovika tracks in his debut EP entitled “Darko-Bit”, with the single “Hey Yogscast!” becoming especially popular.
Brett-Bit has well-rounded experience in the music industry, with clear connections to video games and nerd culture. The overlap between punk and gamer lifestyles is apparent through his multifaceted music.
